Erstwhile Nollywood actor turned politician, Desmond Elliot, has lamented the hatred that he receives from people over comments he made back in 2020.

During the #EndSARS protest, Elliot, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, faced a barrage of criticism after he was heard in a viral video referring to Nigerian youths as children, among other comments, during a plenary session at the Assembly.

Most Nigerian youths developed a resentment towards him since the incident.

But while speaking ow: Let’s Talk, the lawmaker representing Surulere, apologized for the comment, explaining that he said what he said in the heat of the moment.

He decried the hatred he has received from people since after the incident, describing it as ‘too much’. He then called on Nigerians to spread love instead.

He said:

“I’m still apologizing to those who must have misconstrued what I said. I said I was taken by emotions.”

“But, in the end, it still didn’t take away from the facts; the hatred is too much, the polity, the hatred is too much.”

According to him, the hatred follows him to the streets as he gets verbal attacks whenever he steps out.

“I’m in politics now for eight years and I still stand on the fact that love conquers all. I mean I’ve gone out in the streets and people still curse me.”

“But I’m not afraid, I’m not ashamed because they don’t understand the stress that you go through.”
