A Muslim from Northern Nigerians asked me a question on Twitter in regards to my last post comparing the Islamic principle of Tawhid, with the older Ethiopian Orthodox principle of Tewahedo which means the same thing as Tawhid.
Jamil Alhassan asked how Christians could have influenced Muslims. Sadly, his question shows that many Christians and Muslims do not know the history of their faiths. The only know the religiosity of it.
The simple reason behind Jamil’s amazement, which led to his question, is because the heavily monetised and adulterated ‘Christianity’ we have in Nigeria is not the genuine Christianity of Yeshua. That is why Jamil rightly believes that it could not have influenced anyone theologically.
1400 years ago, the first Muslims were given asylum in Ethiopia, and were acculturated: UmRuqayya bint Muhammad, lived with Christians in Ethiopia for seven years with her husband, Uthman.
If you see an Ethiopian orthodox priest, he looks almost indistinguishable from a Muslim imam. Ethiopian Orthodox Christian women wear hijabs (they dint call it hijab, but it is almost indistinguishable from a hijab).
Even prophet Prophet Muhammad (Salla Allahu Alayhi Wasalaam) was raised by an Ethiopian nanny named Barakah. She is believed to be the furry human being to physically touch the prophet.
And beyond that, the second person with whom the prophet confided the message from the angel was Waraqah ibn Nawfal, a Christian priest. It was Waraqah who actually convinced the prophet that he was chosen.
