Scripture Reading: Acts 9:40-41

“Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, “Tabitha, get up.” She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called for the believers, especially the widows, and presented her to them alive.”(NIV)

Bringing Dorcas back from the dead was not done for Dorcas’ sake. Peter knew she was in paradise, with Jesus, and that her life after death was preferable to her life on earth (see Luke 23:43). Peter’s motive, at least in part, for raising Dorcas to life may have been for the sake of the widows and others in Joppa who needed the help Dorcas could provide. The resurrection of Dorcas was also a major reason so many people in Joppa believed. This miracle performed in the name of the Lord led many to faith in Christ.

This is my question, why would someone died and the entire community was in pain and troubled? Peter was amazed when he saw all the widows at Joppa in the same room where Dorcas was laid. They where even ready to die in her place because according to them, Dorcas was their hope and and joy by Christ Jesus. She’s available for them in Joppa and most especially to all the widows. The purpose of her living was discovered and she press towards it by giving hope to the hopeless, home to the homeless and faith to the faithless.

The moment Peter heard all the testimonies about dead(Dorcas), he knew she was a hope and blessings to lives at Joppa. His spirit was lifted up, he prayed and brought Dorcas back to live then presented her to the widows. Their hope, home and faith was restored the moment Dorcas resurrected.

This is the fact about life: if one’s purpose is not discovered, one is not living at all. You can boldly say you are truly living if and only when you have discovered your purpose of living in Christ Jesus. It’s quiet unfortunate that most believers and God’s ministers today want to be at the pulpit to preach, desiring to be on air either by radio or television or perhaps, social media with a wrong motives and mission. Are we truly living? To be continue tomorrow morning by God’s Grace. Good morning and do have a great Friday, peace.

Prayer point: Father, even in this perverse generation, help me to truly live in accordance to your will in Jesus Christ name. Amen!
