EFCC NEWS EDO STATE HIGH COURT SENTENCES 15 INTERNET FRAUDSTERS TO VARIOUS JAIL TERMS IN BENIN CITY - Between November 18 and 20, Justice A.N. Erhabor of the Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City convicted and sentenced 15 internet fraudsters to various jail terms for offenses bordering on obtaining by false pretence, retention of proceeds of crime, and possession of fraudulent documents. The convicts, including Egbai Jude, Diamond Aliza, and Ugochukwu Chijindu, were prosecuted by the Benin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC. All defendants pleaded guilty, prompting the prosecution counsel to pray for conviction and sentencing. Counsel for the defendants requested leniency, citing remorsefulness. Justice Erhabor sentenced the convicts to two years imprisonment or a fine of N200,000, with one convict receiving three years imprisonment or a fine of N200,000. The court also ordered forfeiture of recovered vehicles and assets to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
